Life’s a beach
With a sandy beach rolling for miles, being by the sea in the summer is always idyllic.
Take a long walk or pick a perfect picnic spot and enjoy some relaxation time on the sand.
Whether you’re making sandcastles, sunbathing or taking a dip in the cool blue water, the sea air will do wonders for your health and well-being.
Plus don’t forget your binoculars or a camera – from sea birds to large container ships out at sea, there are plenty of sights to take in!
Fun for everyone
There’s lots of fun to be had in Felixstowe.
You can find the amusement arcades along Sea Road, where you can try your luck on the slot machines before heading off to game of crazy golf.
For sweet treats and ice creams, take a wander through the shop stalls where you can buy everything from Candy Floss to Sugared Doughnuts and other snacks to enjoy while you’re soaking up the sun.
Throughout the year, the seafront is also the focus for a variety of events, including car rallies, fun runs, fairs and the popular Art on the Prom – so there’s never a dull moment.
The garden resort
Dating back to the 18th century, the tranquil seafront gardens are a stunning haven to explore. Walking along Felixstowe’s seafront, you’ll come across the colourful gardens that sit on cliffs between the town centre and the beach.
Sumptuously landscaped and beautifully planted, the gardens stretch for more than a mile along the promenade.
Immerse yourself in the historical heritage of the gardens as you wander through, finding out more about their history through the many historical features and unusual structures.
Hamilton road is Felixstowe’s main retail area and there’s a huge variety of shops to explore, from small boutiques through to independent shops and high street brands.
So whether you’re looking for your summer gear, stocking up on sun-hats and swimwear or searching for the perfect memento, Felixstowe has it all.
From fashion and accessories through to books and stationary, enjoy a day’s wandering through these seaside shops.
Time to eat
Felixstowe is a paradise for food lovers.
There is something to suit every mood and budget, from tearooms, cafes and restaurants through to takeaway fish and chips to eat by the sea.
For a quaint afternoon tea you can book in at The Oaks Tearoom, or head to Crafty Coffee to enjoy some craft making while you have your coffee and cake.
Felixstowe is also home to traditional family run butchers, bakers and fishmongers for all your catering needs.
One of the summer highlights is the Felixstowe Carnival, which you can look out for on the 25th & 26th July. As part of the Carnival the air show always draws the crowds and Gipping Homes is delighted to be sponsoring one of the acrobatic teams this year!
Founded over 60 years ago, the carnival has been a colourful and elaborate extravaganza held every year.
The town will play host to a procession with plenty of fun activities, music and entertainment for all age to enjoy - from bands and music, to food, craft stalls and even an air show.
There are also the regular markets to enjoy. Take a leisurely browse through the Felixstowe Country Market which runs every Friday from 10 – 11 in the summer months, offering a range of everything from preserves and cheeses through to garden produce and crafts!
For the sports mad
Felixstowe has an array of sports clubs and facilities which will keep even the maddest of sports enthusiast happy. The town boasts the best hockey club in England – with Felixstowe Hockey Club winning title in 2014. Felixstowe Ferry is also home to the world renowned sailing club, which regularly hosts national and world championships as well as youth sailing, which attracts over 100 youths every Saturday morning to learn how to navigate a dinghy.
Felixstowe and Walton United and Felixstowe Cricket club also reside in the town as does Felixstowe Rugby club.

Wander down to the beach and you’ll also see the colourful array of kitesurfers and windsurfers making the most of the on-shore breeze
Felixstowe’s famed Spa Pavilion is also set to re-open later this year.
Opened back in 1909, the 800-seat theatre was shut down in 2013 when the council were no longer able to pay to keep it open.
It’s since been sold to NRG Theatres, who have secured funding to refurbish the building, with initial work proposed for the front-of-house, kitchen, bar and restaurant areas.
The plan is now to restore the Spa to its former glory, so watch this space.
